Faculty position in financial mathematics/engineering

Reykjavik University is looking to hire a faculty member in financial mathematics/engineering. The plan is to establish a research group in the area, whose members will also be responsible for the teaching of financial mathematics in the School of Business and the School of Science and Engineering. We already have an undergraduate program in financial engineering, and plan to start a Masters program that would be run jointly by the two Schools (Business/Science and Engineering).

We are looking for people who clearly belong to the international research community in financial mathematics, who want to become leaders in building up research, and who also want to see their teaching result in an outstanding education of their students.

The first person we hire is to become the core of the research group, and instrumental in building it, as well as in developing the teaching in the subject.

If you are interested, or want further information, please contact Prof. Einar Steingrimsson, einarst@ru.is.

Applications should be sent by email to Einar Steingrimsson at einarst@ru.is, and should include a CV, with list of publications, together with a research plan and other relevant information. Please also arrange to have letters of recommendation sent directly to us. These should preferably be sent by email. If that is not possible, they should be sent to Einar Steingrimsson, Reykjavik University, Ofanleiti 2, IS-103 Reykjavik, Iceland.

Applications should be received by July 1, 2006. Please note, however, that we expect to recruit more people for this group over the next couple of years, so don't hesitate to contact us at a later date.

Although Iceland is a small country, it is home to several financial institutions with substantial international operations. We expect to establish collaboration with these in developing our program in financial mathematics.

Also, we are establishing ties with several leading foreign universities, which we expect to result in guest lecturers visiting us and also in student exchange.

Reykjavik University is a young and vibrant university, which is building research groups in various areas. In mathematics there is one so far (in algebraic combinatorics, see www.math.ru.is/combinatorics). In addition to the one in financial mathematics, we expect to build a third one in the next few years, whose focus will likely be in some area of applied mathematics.
